I think the ending to “The Gift” is wonderful (in a “Great, now I'm going to be depressed for the next week” sort of way), so I like that you included a slightly modified version featuring Faith here. Faith letting Buffy jump also feels very in character for your version of Faith – I can imagine her understanding and respecting Buffy's decision, even if she desperately didn't want it to happen. And Buffy knowing that she was leaving Dawn in the protection of another Slayer would at least have given her a little more peace of mind.

I also like how Dawn is completely not bothered that it's a different Buffy – as you hinted at, she kinda does have more perspective on the matter than anyone. Besides, it's definitely an upgrade from a robot.

Skimming over the “what's going on” was a good call. There was enough there to ground it without it going all deja vu (And anybody who gets confused should have followed the instructions :p). Three chapters of research, etc, before they set sail to LA would probably have been overkill.

Buffy went to visit Angel and didn't take Spike with her? Missed opportunity (Sorry, their immature relationship amuses me). :p

Faith's reaction to Buffy visiting should be interesting. They kind of left on strange terms – Buffy threatening to kill her then saving her instead, then Faith turning herself in and saving Angel – so Faith's state of mind could be pretty much anywhere.

Author's Response:

I thought The Gift was wonderful too! And honestly, I think the show should have ended there. What a fantastic way to wrap up. Instead... season 6. SIGH.

Dawn's been through so much in the past few months, I think she'd cling to any port in a storm right about now. And yeah, she beats the Bbot. :D

Haha, damn! Missed Spangel hijinks!! She hasn't actually seen Spike yet. :p But she will soon! Maybe I can work some Spangel in later. :p I won't say anything about Faith's reaction to Buffy visiting her, I'll let you see for yourself. :)

Excited you are reading this one! I know I have slacked like a slacking thing on responding to my last round of FF reviews on Flowers, and yours is in there. D: I have to go get that done.

I really, really liked the visiting scene. It was sweet, hopeful and sad all rolled into one. Faith's reaction came across as very believable. She has obviously calmed since going to jail, but there's still some of her temperamentalness there. I also like how she instantly switched from feeling like she needed to get away from Buffy to worrying Buffy was about to leave as soon as she moved her chair. She came off as a little bit fragile, like she just didn't seem to really know what to think or do, which is completely understandable.

If someone had actually found a way to send Buffy back it would actually be a really depressing ending now. In the first story the alt-Faith would have gotten her Buffy back and the original Buffy would at least have her friends and life waiting for her. It was pretty much win-win. But here original Faith would be stuck alone again (OK, so technically she's still kind of alone, but not for long :D). And that happening after the hands-on-the-glass part (Which was a really nice moment, and I can imagine it doing heaps of good for Faith. She's been stuck behind bars at a low point in her life, and then suddenly she has something to look forward to again, even if she can't let herself believe it can last) :( In fact, I suspect Faith will (Will, not would. I'm predicting it's going to happen sometime in the next few chapters. :p) have a very different reaction when Buffy brings up being upset about not being able to get home in front of her.

But yeah, that was kind of wonderful.

Eek, poor Cordy. I guess without Angel she was basically screwed from the beginning. Really should have stuck with Sunnydale. At least she'd have had (double) Slayer protection. To make up for it though, I'm going to pretend that Wesley must still be out hunting down those rogue demons like the motorbike-riding badass that you know he is. :p

Buffy's handling of the Spike/Buffybot reveal was funny, as was Anya's, err, contribution.

Author's Response:

Thank you! That's exactly what I wanted in the jail scene. :)

Well, I don't think it would necessarily be depressing for Buffy to go back. Canon Buffy would perhaps come back with some greater understanding of Faith and be motivated to make an effort? Not to say I will send them back. This is, after all, the story of Alt Buffy in canon world. :pI think canon Buffy could conceivably come home and make some sort of fresh start with canon Faith, but to me it's a more interesting to explore how canon Faith would react to this weird version of Buffy that actually gives a crap about her.

Of course Wesley's off rogue demon hunting! Although I don't know how long he would have lasted without running into Angel, but let's pretend. :D

First we have Willow being an egotistical... witch (Giles should have slapped her with his hanky). Possibly a little harsh of Buffy putting Tara in the middle of it, even if she didn't really mean to cause any harm, but go Tara for sticking to her principles, even if she was sucking up a little in the process. Tara should also buy herself a hanky; preparation is key. Then Dawn won the argument, in a (slightly-needy-but-)sweet way.

Another nice scene with Buffy visiting Faith. Even if it looks like the time for my prediction to happen has just passed (I should really just stop trying. :p).

“So this means… you’ve seen me naked.”

lol. So unexpected. Of all the thoughts or questions that revelation could have brought up.

Nice alteration with Buffy having killed Finch instead (That guy just doesn't catch a break in any dimension). She really is in a position to understand why Faith ended up where she is and not judge her for any of it. And she's being super supportive throughout.

““You really don’t—”

“Have to—I know,” Buffy says, as Faith climbs to her feet. “I want to.””

Aaww. :)

Faith is probably now busy mentally planning out their wedding*. :p

You and your Hohos...

*Not a prediction.

Author's Response:

Well, everybody weighed in, and Tara, Giles, and Willow are the only ones who really know *that* much about magic. I think Buffy had to ask Tara what she thought. :p Plus I always loved strong Tara moments from the series, when she stood up for herself or someone else. :) Giles should slap [insert name here] is probably the solution to about half the problems on the show AND in fic.

So their convo about Buffy staying here didn't go as you expected? Did you think Faith would be happier about it?

*Goes to re-write next chapter and put in wedding planning to make you feel good about yourself :p*

I don't think Willow ever had much of a genuine reason to dislike Faith other than jealousy; she even seemed more upset about Faith sleeping with Xander than strangling him. And now she's just being a total ass. So the plan should be: Buffy abducts Willow. Willow stops being lame (On the account of being tied up under Buffy's bed). Buffy gets sent to jail for not returning her when asked politely. Has Faith as a cell mate. Canoodling commences. And they live a happy, rent-free (See, it solves all the problems!) life together. Yes?

Err, meanwhile the world kinda ends (Unfortunate, but I didn't say it was a perfect plan). :p

Anyway, at least everyone else is being (relatively) supportive.

I thought Buffy would want to get Faith out sooner or later. She probably should have waited until Faith had gotten used to the idea of her before suggesting it though. Might have gone down slightly better. It's a little sad that Faith is so down on herself and that maybe she doesn't really trust herself, but it also shows that she has changed – that turning herself in wasn't just a hasty decision that she regrets. And all she wants to do is fight dragons with Buffy! Is that really too much to ask? :(

Author's Response:

Tying her up under the bed, huh? That's a different kind of fic, Silent. Where are you going with this?? :p

I don't think cohabitating in prison while the world ends is quite the ending I had envisioned, but I'll take it under advisement. :)

Unfortunately Buffy's not thinking all that clearly right now, so just plows ahead with what she sees as talking some sense into Faith. They're both right, in their own way, but neither of them wants to see the other's side. :(

"21 months later"

Lame. :p Where's the twelve-chapter epic breakout plan that you promised*?

Ouch. No more visits for almost two years? Harsh. At least she kept sending Faith the art supplies, but still, that's a long time to be stuck in a cell with nothing to do but think about things. :( I bet back at the prison there's a cartoon lying around of a half-eaten Slayer sticking out of a dragon's mouth.

I'm not sure Spike eating Xander would be that big of a deal. Probably best to start with Willow and go from there though.

For a bit I thought Willow was still going to be in big bad mode. But evil Amy sounds just as promising.... At least until you 21-months-later her away. (OK, I'm over it now. Probably. :p)

Oh, and I liked the Madame Magdalena bit. :D

*Or were supposed to promise but clearly forgot to. Whichever.

Author's Response:

I cut those epic scenes along with the wedding plans. :D

The real purpose of the time jump is to differentiate this fic from Flowers, and because I didn't want to cheapen Faith's storyline by springing her early.

Willow did basically go into bad mode in season six, and it's described in more detail later, we just skipped it to go into my season seven. :p I promise I won't jump 21 months into the future again (although now I kind of want to do an epilogue where it goes to 21 months later, just to be a brat). :)

How about if I write Conner in and then I kill him? Will that get me back into your good graces?? :p

Reviewer: SilentlySlaying Signed

Oops. I thought Ayan was just a typo when I saw the name in the previous chapter. But it looks like Dawn has made a (Witchy?) friend. And lol at Buffy's handling of her grumpy morning attitude.

Faith totally missed the perfect opportunity to throw hot liquid in Willow's face. Sure, Willow hadn't done too much wrong in that scene, but it would have been a good pre-emptive strike.

Yes! Murderous Chipmunks (That was more or less that you said :p)! And yes, if Connor were to be eaten by these murderous chipmunks then that wouldn't be a bad thing. Especially if he were to retroactively cease to exist in Angel so he could stop ruining it all. Then you'd basically be a hero.

Faith had a plan – it even involved stealth. See, she really has grown, and Buffy should be proud. :p

Meanwhile, I think Amy may have turned into a slightly insane veterinarian. Her forest of evil-creepy-animal-things is pretty cool. It would be a bit of a pain in the ass to stake your way through that, even with two Slayers on the job.

Author's Response:

Pre-emptive strikes for the win. Willow deserves it. Okay, are you ready?

BOOM

PRESTO

CONNOR IS GONE

WHO?

WHAT?

ALL IS WELL IN ANGEL LAND.

There. How was that? Did that work for you? C:

Ayan is Selima's younger sister, and yes, friend of Dawn now. :) The insane vet, I like it! She does have that special affinity for rats, after all. I'll admit, the addition of stealth is an improvement over her early plans (if you don't come after me, I might die!). Not sure it was totally well-formed, but whatever, they sort of made it out in one piece. That's all that counts!

"Buffy looks up at her with big eyes, obviously waiting for a real answer. ”

It's a small moment, but I think this scene says a lot about how their relationship is different to the canon version. Buffy cares enough about Faith to press for an answer, and Faith in turn feels like she can be more open. Nice opening scene (So much so that I won't even tease you about the time jump :O).

The inclusion of Marcie is cool, as was her reintroduction. Nice to see she's, err, putting her invisibility to good use, and it was very fitting that nobody remembered her. You're so going to kill her, aren't you? :p

Lol, poor Faith. You shouldn't mock the entrail-covered, Buffy, especially after they (inadvertently) saved you from the same fate. That's just downright mean.

Another sweet scene at the end as well. I like that they're still getting used to each other rather than just going full frontal throttle at the first opportunity (Although I can't imagine either one will get an awful lot of sleep lying that intimately :p), and that they're communicating (And that it feels like they've built up to being able to communicate). It feels genuine, and, as fun as a snarky Faith and Buffy throw-down can be, the temperaments of both characters in this story is something I could easily get used to.

Really good chapter. :)

Author's Response:

I don't kill everybody. Hmmph. I always really liked Marcie. I thought it was such a cool idea.

I think if there's one thing Buffy understands, it's Faith and what makes her tick. She is able to avoid a lot of relationship pitfalls because she's already got the inside track into Faith's mind. In most respects anyway. I think Faith will still surprise her in some ways. But thus far it's working out pretty well for them. I think also they usually get together based on attraction (like most people haha), whereas here they already have some deeper connections going on. I don't think that means the road won't have bumps though. Just different ones. Which we shall find out together, whenever I complete the next chapter! :p

Pfft. Strikethroughs on comments don't work. False advertising much? :p Now my "full frontal throttle" comment just makes me look like a spaz. :'(

Author's Response:

What?! They totally work.

"She misses her Willow, the shy, smart, sweet girl who knew Buffy’s heart. ”

Don't we all. R.I.P. High School Willow.

Willow is being a gigantic douche-face again here, especially after we're told that she went ahead and tried that spell without Buffy's consent. At least Buffy called her out on it. And Willow gets no sympathy from me for turning on the waterworks - she should be thankful she didn't get thrown down the stairs. :p

Dawn totally is the best sister, even if she still needs time to warm to Faith. And she should definitely get an allowance raise.

Faith mocking Tara's stutter always felt horribly OOC to me, but sadly it happened so it's good that she apologised for it.

Amy and Willow seem to be getting along well. Everyone should really just leave them to it. *cough*

Author's Response:

RIP indeed. Oh, later seasons of Buffy, why did you hurt us so?

Now I wish I had thrown her down the stairs, but I guess Tara would be mad. Then we'd have a rift in the Buffy/Tara friendship and that'd just be sad.

Wouldn't that be a great conclusion to the fic? Willow and Amy went abroad to terrorize Eurasia, and then Buffy and Faith went camping and ate s'mores and had sex. The End! :D It's not too late...

Insane, bad ass Amy is a pretty cool villain. She should really have set Willow on fire though. Poor Faith. :(

Tara was being pretty bad ass as well, even if her loyalties are horribly misplaced (Assuming the memory wiping still happened).

“What’d I miss? Let me guess… evil? Running on one of those little wheels?”

Buffy gets full marks for her entrance.

Stop toying with Marcie you big meanie. Invisible people have rights too! :p

Author's Response:

Lol. I can't remember if you, like me, generally hate Willow, or is this my Willow hate wearing off on you? I think the memory wipe probably still happened, but Tara's forgiven it, as she did on the show. She does show some sense though. They aren't living together and haven't rush back into things. Willow's proving herself to Tara, and well, everybody else, little by little.

Quipping Buffy is the best Buffy, IMHO.

I am not toying with Marcie! :p But if people can't see you, how can they stop themselves from hitting you with a giant blast of energy? It's only common sense, lol.

You're making me love Marcie. Stop it (Unless you promise not to kill her, in which case you may continue with my blessing)!

Buffy should really take her two victories and be grateful she didn't run over a squirrel. She must also be the most well-adjusted and understanding Buffy of any reality. No wonder Faith is smitten, even if they still have a few issues to work through.

The date and post-date were sweet, and you're very good at being a tease. :p

Author's Response:

You make a lot of accusations about me being a character killer, but aside from that ONE TIME I KILLED EVERYONE, when have I done it?! I don't think I killed any characters in any of my other fics actually. Oh, well, Spike, but come on. That's totally allowed, and in fact I would encourage everyone else to follow suit. Down with Spike I say. :D

I kind of love Marcie too. Did I tell you I was thinking about writing a Marcie-centered one shot? I mean, don't hold your breath or anything, but I bet I could deliver it by the end of 2015.

Hey, Faith is the tease, not me!

Reviewer: SilentlySlaying Signed

Amy was the first thought that crossed my mind and I didn’t feel too inclined to change it after Tara’s reaction. I don’t think veiny Willow would have much of a reason to tiptoe around, and Amy kind of made it clear in an earlier chapter that she wants Willow on her side so killing her girlfriend and separating her from her friends would fit with that.

I did wonder if Tara was going to be dead though, what with it being you and all. :p

Faith is probably going to end up getting an angry glare from Buffy, even if some (silly) people would argue she was doing the right thing (But really? Help Willow or go on date with Buffy? There are more difficult decisions in life.)

Author's Response:

Nah, I love Tara! Hence why she survived Omega. :D Technically it wasn't help Willow or go on a date. :p It was help Willow or, umm, capture and bind Willow, possibly with magically induced injuries. :)

Reviewer: SilentlySlaying Signed
Date: 04/15/2014 Title: Chapter 12: Chapter 12

I mostly remembered what had happened so far, apart from why Faith was sneaking off with Willow when there was almost certainly a perfectly good Buffy around there somewhere, but at the first mention of Tara it all came back in a big "Ohhhh yeah" moment. Kinda scary that it's been five months though.

I was right about Willing being innocent. Woo! That wasn't quite the Buffy/Faith reunion I was expecting though, but it was one worth reading. And well written, as usual - a lot of sex and even just general romance scenes end up sounding like the two people are floating in a vacuum and everything is perfect, but I think the sort of scenery description you mixed in helps it feel less artificial. I just hope they put some clothes on before walking upstairs - I'm sure Dawn doesn't need or want to see all of that. :p

It didn't sound like Willow was actually trying to help the two of them, but it seems like she ended up doing so a little anyway. Also, when she said she loved Buffy, I bet she was mentally adding, "The other one." Yes, I still don't like her, even if she isn't currently completely evil. Maybe she'll grow on me by the end if she does warm to Faith.

Overall: well written, with a slight lack of Marcie, and I did notice a few small mistakes; I thought you'd have had plenty of time to proofread (Don't glare; somebody was going to say it eventually. Probably). 0:)

Author's Response:

I know! But I was busy with umm... stuff. Yes very busy stuff. Just take my word for it. :D

Lol I didn't even think about them walking upstairs naked!! Oopsie. You caught me there. Willow was most def not trying to help. That one kind of backfired on her. I think she underestimates (I wanted to say misunderestimates, TM GW Bush) Buffy in a lot of ways, and this is just the latest. She probably won't grow on you. She's not growing on me either! :p I'll give you some Marcie coming up. I actually have a beta, so blame all mistakes on her (cue beta running away because I am an a-hole). I actually loathe re-reading after I finally finish, so I accept some of the blame. :p

Reviewer: SilentlySlaying Signed
Date: 06/08/2014 Title: Chapter 13: Chapter 13

First of all, you didn't kill Marcie throughout all of that, so you should give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back. Now you just have to keep it up for one more chapter. You can do it; Marcie believes in you!

That was a pretty chaotic second half. Plenty going on. It looks like none of it is good for Buffy and the gang, but I suspect everything isn't as it seems. I'm not sure what Willow, Tara and Faith's plan is, but Willow sent a letter about something, so Tara could be playing possum while Willow keeps up the charade (As it was Willow who cast that last spell), but I doubt Faith's role was to let herself (Almost, hopefully) drown. Ooh, or maybe Willow was borrowing Tara's power so she has enough to take on Amy, and the "Your turn" comment at the end was more a "Your turn to be magic-melted, Amy!", and then Faith's role is to bash Willow over the head once Amy is dead before Willow goes out of control on power (And Buffy couldn't be trusted not to bash too hard because she's currently not pro-Willow). Right? Right?

As for Buffy, she probably wants to get back to that CPRing. She should know by now what a pain in the ass new Slayers can be. :p

So one more chapter and then... Omega Rising sequel, yes? :D

Author's Response:

So one more chapter turned into two, since I couldn't squeeze all the things in chapter 14. :p Now I have to keep Marcie alive for two chapters. How the eff am I going to do that?

You know Faith, she's never been one to follow the plan. I don't think you have the plan quite right there... but I did enjoy your speculation. :D Faith has only a very small role, but she did kind of spoil it by going and drowning herself and bashing her head in. Tara will probably forgive that since Faith did manage to keep her alive. I would love any plan that involved bashing Willow over the head. I will write that plan into my next story, tentatively titled, Kill Willow Volume 1.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but Omega isn't next. I have a half completed long fic to finish up. Then Omega's warring with my newest plot bunny...

Reviewer: SilentlySlaying Signed

So Faith is apparently not great at motivating. Somehow I am not surprised.

When Giles told her to look around the corner, I totally thought it was a “Go away and pretend to be busy before you annoy everyone” comment. But no, it was just your run-of-the-mill possessed horde.

Eww, eww, and more eww to the eye thing. Yuck. *shudder* Did not need to read that. As if GoT hadn't already grossed me out enough for one year. :( Buffy really should have stuck with the group. I'm surprised she took off without making sure Faith was OK first as well, but I guess magic is more effective than CPR.

Well... my prediction wasn't that far off. *cough*

And it could all have been avoided if Willow had been more forthcoming with the grapes. Bad Willow! OK, maybe not, but I do feel a little sorry for Amy now. She just wants to be nuzzled!

What are they going to do with her? I was kinda expecting Willow to turn her back into a rat, which would have been harsh. Maybe they could just keep her occupied with a really big wheel. And possibly a vineyard.

#marcielives

Author's Response:

I live to gross you out, as you know. I haven't had any zombies around in a while, so I have had to find other means. I did refrain from trying my gory hand on Marcie though, so you're welcome for that. :p

I think CPR could have been effective, but Buffy doesn't know that Willow's still on their side, and after what happens to Tara, she feels like she doesn't have a choice but to go. There's another option for Faith, but she's Tara's only hope at the moment. I thought it was actually a bit of growth for her. She isn't putting Faith ahead of everyone and everything. They're slayers, and sometimes they have to make tough calls.

I feel sorry for Amy Rat too! One of the reasons I didn't want to turn her back into a rat. It just seemed so cruel after I wrote her sad little life. Nuzzling does solve all the world's problems though. Damn that Willow for being so inattentive. They'll do something with her next chapter. Hint, it is not a wheel. :D

I have some bad news. You forfeited your cookie by pretending to send Faith back to prison. But I'm not unreasonable, and I bet not killing anybody must have been hard, so I give you permission to bake your own. Just the one though. And you're not allowed to actually eat it. So there. :p

Umm, so moving on. The story was wrapped up nicely, and things turned out well for everyone. Unless you're Amy, who now lives in a giant, frozen wheel (What does the E stand for in ICE?).

I can't remember a lot of the earlier chapters now, but the last couple were definitely good. Nice pacing, suspenseful, and left me guessing what was actually going on with Amy/Willow.

Ooh, is one of the one-shots Marcie related? I think you said it was somewhere, but I could be making that up. Just wondering where she's going back to and what an invisible person does all day (You know, if messing with people's heads ever gets old.).

You've written another half a story already? Is it because you have two keyboards (And four hands, obviously)? Not that I'm complaining (But I might about the lack of plot. We'll see. :p). Everything you write is consistently high quality so the more the better. :)

Author's Response:

This is BS. I want that cookie!

Not killing anybody was kind of hard. I so wanted to bump at least one person off, but I figured some of the finales on Buffy involved no deaths, so I could manage to do it too. :D *pats self on the back* There is actually no E in the abbreviation but it sounds like ice when said aloud. Couldn't figure out how to convey that sensibly in the dialogue. :p

One of the one shots is Marcie centric, yep. :) I have some further plans for her. Invisible people need love too. We shall see when I get to writing it. I started it, but I'm working on my anniversary contest entry at the moment, so perhaps when I'm done I can pick it back up.

I only have two hands! And they are actually quite slow. Curse you, hands! The reason its half done is because I was writing it while writing Flowers. I stopped so I could complete Girl and get it done. Unfortunately my brain always wants to do the next fic before I'm done the current so I usually pick back up two years after having started a fic. This one is was started in early 2013 I think, unlike poor Girl which actually started before Flowers. :p I'm confusing my own self now. You'll probably complain about lack of plot but I will kill someone every time you do. So bear that in mind. >:)

Thank you as always for your feedback. :)

Well... that went a little further than I was expecting. :p As alcohol-induced experiences go, better than turning into a cavewoman, even if Buffy might not admit that out loud.

Faith tormenting Buffy with her very specific line of questioning was funny, as was the reveal of how tame Buffy’s questions had been in comparison. Buffy’s blunt responses on the night and the morning after were great too.

Good description throughout and overall a nice start. :)

Also, Faith so was going to kiss her. Way to put a dampener on her night, Buffy. Jeez, how ungrateful. :p

lol. Indecisive much, Buffy? Poor confused Faith, though constantly bragging about all the people she has been with probably isn’t going to help win Buffy over. Maybe some more vodka…

Somehow I knew that last scene wasn't going to end well. At least Buffy tried to defend Faith... she deserves some credit. Not much, but a little.

And Xander really does like to stick his nose into Buffy's love life far too much. Faith should have just hit him. Hard. :p

The concept is cool (Tru Calling springs to mind; too bad it was cancelled by the time it started exploring things in an interesting way), and I love season three so much that the re-use of dialogue is fine by me (Weirdly, despite having seen it a worrying amount of times, I've never picked up on Willow being concerned about the alligator before). The alterations are enough to keep it fresh, and seeing how Buffy tries to change things up will be interesting. It looks like the original reality is almost fighting back at times (Or maybe Faith is just really stubborn), which suggests getting everything right won't be as easy as it might seem on paper. Plus we've already seen one example of unexpected side effects with Kakistos going after Giles.

I have this inexplicable desire to skip ahead and see if Buffy manages to bypass the entire council test and just punch Travers in the face instead (OK, so that wouldn't fit with her 'stick to the script' plan, but sometimes a little risk can be worth it :p).

My only complaint is that it could maybe use some beta-reading, mainly for punctuation. It can be a little distracting at times, though it's not unreadable or anything.

Oh, and the paragraphing. But you can probably blame Alice for that. :)

Author's Response:

Oh, hey! :)

And thanks for taking the time to review.

The concept was pretty much pinched from another fic on another site, called 'Starting Over' I think, It wasn't anywhere near finished (only three or so chapters) and I thought it was a cool enough idea to attempt my own version.

Some of the dialogue is from the show, some from me, and I added a few bits that where in the shooting script (like Willow asking about the alligator and Faith's answer) which, sadly, never got used- either for time constraits or some other reason.

I tried to get a balance right between Buffy changing stuff successfully, but also keeping enough familiarity to give the 'alternate Season 3' some context for myself and the reader, but as the story progresses it diverges more and more from the original stuff.

Plus, unexpected side-effects will become a big theme in the story, as you might find out...

Yeah, I will eventually get around to getting my new, much better beta-reader to punctuate the story better and repost it- although I think that kinda stuff gets better as the story progresses. I've got a new, more skilled beta at the moment- really adds confidence to my writing!

Anyway, thanks again for reading- I'd be thrilled to hear your thoughts on any of the other chapters!

Possibly my least favourite episode of season three, but Platt was about the highlight, so it's nice that he lived even if we don't hear from him again. I liked the opening scene between Buffy and Faith, and their conversation flowed well. It felt authentic too, as did the one between Buffy and Platt when she went to warn him. Buffy's dialogue felt realistic throughout; she's probably the character you've written best so far.

I can't imagine Xander being more understanding just because Buffy told them about Angel (He was consistently an ass when it came to Buffy and Angel's relationship), but other than that the characterisation was good. Especially Buffy's (Though I think she'd probably like musicals. Or Disney on Ice, at least. :p).

Author's Response:

Hey there, :)

Yeah, Beauty And The Beasts is certainly not my favourite, it has a distinctly unpleasent tone to it about violence against women...hell, about violence in general, for my taste.

But it has some nice bits, a good few Faith/Buffy moments, I liked Platt a lot and Buffy's reaction to Angel was really understandable.

Buffy herself is one of my favourites on the show, even though I understand and dislike some of her character traits, on the whole she's pretty great. Flawed characters makes it easier for me to write them 'authentically', so I'm glad you like her dialogue and such. :)

Xander is an ass when it comes to Angel, he doesn't like him in the slightest...but he does like Buffy, and I think Xander is sensitive enough to realise that Buffy owning up to something like that would be a huge deal for her. He's a good enough friend to be supportive about the whole situation, at least to begin with.

(It's worth noting that Xander went postal in 'Revelations' because Buffy had been keeping secrets from them all, but mainly because he saw Buffy kissing Angel- that's why he got so angry and acted the way he did.)

I forgot that Buffy likes Ice-capades! Well, sorta. I don't consider them musicals per se, more like ballet on ice, but some of them do have songs and stuff don't they?

Oh well, they were talking about types of films I think, which is a different catagory to live shows. :P

Thanks for your feedback. Made my day!

Ooh, a mysterious tattoo. So the time travel probably isn't an Anya (Or other vengeance demon) thing then. I wasn't sure if you were going to cover why Buffy was getting a second chance, but now it looks like you will and it's something ominous. A last-ditch spell set up by Mayor Wilkins in case things went wrong, maybe? That's all I can think of at least.

I liked Willow's random butting in while Buffy was explaining Angel to Faith. And Faith's concise summary of the curse. And then Faith trying to violate Mr Gordo (Poor Mr Gordo. Not cool, Faith.). That was a nice scene, and the dialogue flowed really well.

I also feel like I should like that Willow and Faith are getting along, but at the same time, Willow annoyed me so much during that season that I mostly just want to see Faith punch her instead. :p

Aaw, poor Cordy - she still couldn't win Homecoming Queen, even without Buffy's meddling. A nice, untimely entrance there though – I thought she'd definitely seen Buffy and Faith together, and I think that'd be pretty much the reaction she'd have if she did.

And then lots of oh dear. Buffy really knows how to woo a girl. Slightly harsh, even if her overreaction was from denial and not malice. I'm not surprised that Faith didn't take it well, and the mouthwash line was a good way of summing up Faith's feelings.

Author's Response:

Ah, yes the episode where the sub-plot belatedly rears its head- tattoo, wish, hi-jinks... yadda yadda :)

I had a whole lot of fun with this episode, what with the dancing scene and the sleepover scenes- I really had to get away from the actual episode for a good part of it and stretch my writing muscles- I'm glad you found them enjoyable.

I always thought that Willow loved gossip (boys, romance and alll that girl stuff) and didn't really have enough gal pals to really indulge herself- and now she can, being all 'in the know'

Re; Faith, curse- she's a pragmatist at heart, and would certainly point out the unfairnness/logic flaw on the whole thing, without really understanding the tragedy of it. She's wacky that way.

Plus a violator of stuffed animals! :p

Yeah...Willow. The only real explanation I see for Willow's unkind/unsympathetic behaviour (she tends to be nice most of the time- even to Cordelia) is insecurity. Feeling threatened by the whole slayer thing.

She's still a brat about it (even well into the comics...) but I try and remember that the dislike of Faith is one of her few character flaws (early on that is...) so I cut her a little slack.

If Buffy deals with those insecurities with a little reassurance they don't become bottled up.

Imo Cordy was never really in the running for Prom Queen, she's she's spent too much time hanging around with the 'weird kids' to be considered truly popular, despite her many charming qualities. :p

And yeah, her reaction would've pretty much been an 'OMG you're a freak' moment, and then moving on to her own deep 'trauma', but that'll all have to wait for a while.

And the whole Buffy freaking out when Faith kisses her and saying something d'oh-worthy is a cliche, but it's a realistic one I think, and their budding relationship needs a few more bumps in the road, which'll be explored as the story goes along.

Thanks for the kind review!

I really appreciate it :)

No high five from Faith. Buffy's managed to make things worse than last time. Impressive. :p

People talking a lot isn't ever a problem for me. The show is basically 90% dialogue and 10% Buffy punching things in the face. What more could anyone possibly want?

Unless I missed or forgot something, I'm not really sure why Faith had a reason to doubt Post. It seemed to come out of nowhere.

Xander's gratitude toward Angel after the fight with Post was... touching. :p

I vote for camping with Spike and Giles at the same time. I'll even give you a week to retrofit it. 0:)

Author's Response:

Hey there, :)

Oh, yeah. Both Buffy and Faith were in a confused emotional state at this point. But Buffy ants to talk about it, Faith just wants to shut her out, it's her way of dealing.

And I enjoy witing the dialogue scenes most of all, but some people like the mushy stuff, others like an interesting plot, some like punchy-ness. I try to give a little of everything!

I think it wasn't so much Faith doubting Post as kinowing and trusting in Buffy enough this time around to go with her sister-slayer against Post.

She had a little faith (he he...sorry)

I threw the Xander/Angel bit in because I always got a kick out of their interactions. I always wished that Xander got a chance to see Angel when he was in LA just like pretty much all the other Scoobies did. It would've been a fun reaction to see.

Camping with those two would be such a pain! Gles would order everybody about and we'd probably be having 'organised fun' while Spike would just leave cigarette butts everywhere and nick all the food!

Hopefully you'll like the chapter a little bit more than that. :p

Thanks for the review- I always get a grin out of it. :)

I may have winced when Buffy started talking about Ted. I was expecting Faith to react... err, badly, when Buffy got to the twist, and I wasn't too far off, but luckily Buffy turned it around. I think going to Giles behind Faith's back was the worst decision she made (Or at least the one that most drove them apart). I can understand where she was coming from though, but that only makes the whole thing more sad. So it was a realistic choice for a turning point.

I'm glad that Faith came clean in the end though (And that Wesley wasn't skulking about). Letting Buffy take the fall wouldn't have been a healthy foundation for much of anything.

Oh, and I laughed at the appliance killer comment, especially with Buffy's immediate follow-up; it sounded like she was going to complain to Giles that Faith was being mean to her. "Giiiiles. Make her stop!" :p

Author's Response:

I'n not a big fan of 'Ted' as episodes go, its a bit of a cop-out from what could've been a original idea. (Joyce gets involved with a different kind of monster- a human one) and turn into a really silly MotW.- Although I always enjoy John Ritter's performances. :)

But it happened, both Joyce and Dawn refer to Ted much later on, so I always thought it was strange that Buffy never would, especially in eeriely similar circumstances.

I glad you found the whole thing realistic, as turning points go I think Faith is still savable, but it needed a big risky gexture by Buffy to do it. (Plus Wesley being kept in the dark this time)

And darn it, now I can't read that 'I'm telling Giles' line without seeing a pouty Buffy-sulk! Damn you.:p

'Giles, Faith was mean to me, and she also totally killed a guy and doesn't even care, and she laughed at my robot story!' :)

Thanks for reading and responding, always welcome.

I wasn't expecting Buffy and Faith to have already been dating in the past. And then you left telling us why they broke up right until the end. Sneaky.

The ending was nice, especially after Buffy had spent the last few years alone and depressed while everybody around her had moved on. Plus now she can make Faith take the other Slayers out on patrol while she stays at home to drink wine in peace.

Author's Response:

Thanks!  It was fun to throw in that they had dated previously.  Happy you enjoyed the story!  :)
