Hey, I like this! Post-Season 7 is like a big, blank space that needs to be filled with Fuffy (it's the only ship that makes sense by then- Buffy's turned down Angel, Spike's dead and Riley's married his female clone. That leaves Faith!)

You just have to ignore the comics (not that they don't have some merit...)

Poor Faith, being all commitment-y and Buffy's doubts breaking her vulnerable heart. Let's hope these crazy kids can make it work!

Author's Response:

I've read some of the comics but not all of them but yes, fuffy does make the most sense.  :)  I wanted to mix it up a bit and have Faith be the one who wants to commit.  Happy you liked it!

Okay, so I read this all in one go and...it was pretty good!

Not a Kennedy fan, but the pairing here was well written and...almost believable. I still don't see it myself and I can usually dig most non-canon ships.

I actually pleased you focused on the emotional stuff and less on any...graphic physical connection.

Your writing is as impressive as always.

Interesting start!

I'm a big fan of Willow/Faith in/after S7, mainly because I too think that Kennedy is a watered down version of Faith (without half the charm or sex appeal...), which means that Faith is definitly Willows type...

Might explain why Willow was kind of jealous of Faith even before the slayer went all evil! *repressed?*

Anyway, really liking the dialogue, plus the funny Buffy/Faith interplay. How is Willow coing to react to Faith's crush?

Roll on the next chapter!

Author's Response:

Thanks for checking this out, I was a bit worried about this one not getting any attention due to this being a fuffy site. I'm about 5 chapters ahead, so I probably will post the next one soon.

I'm also a big fan of Willow/Faith in and after S7. I think their personalities are far more compatible at this point. Plus I've been binge watching How I met your mother recently, and my god older AH is fine! I could totally buy Faith having a thing for Willow!

Thanks for the feedback!

Wow...Buffy is such a bitch! She's kind of unlikable at the moment, calling Faith crazy and hitting her!

Hopefully things'll get better in the future.

Nice to see Angel and Faith interacting, him giving her a pep little talk about thoughts and actions was nice.

Kennedy...I don't really like the character but she was friendly with Faith, I don't see her being judgemental and two-faced to her. Butting heads about slayer stuff and acting like she's better than she is? Sure, that's Kennedy all over. But the other stuff, I'm not so sure.

Loved Willow's little 'In defence of Faith' speech. Right on the money, if Willow is forgiven after three months, then Faith should be given a second chance after three years. They both did bad things for their own reasons.

Good chapter- more Willow/Faith interaction, pretty please!

Wow, just wow.

Very sweet and touching...and then that final paragragh hits like a gut-punch. (As I presume it meant to...)

Poor Faith...I always thought it would be very hard/almost impossible for the two of them to get intimate after S7 and everything (Buffy has her walls up, Faith's deep self-loathing, lack of trust from either of them) and your final bit lays out why. *sigh*

I like this, very original.

Author's Response:

Aww thank you so much, I really appreciate the feedback. This was my first fic, I'm still very new at this, so your response means a lot :)

With a few sentences you fleshed her out, gave her character. Amazing job, truly.

And the Kendra/Faith interactions were great, so well judged

Now, if only there was a way to get a Buffy/Kendra/Faith fic going...

Hey, that was a fun little fic- drabbles have their place and this was really nice, low-key stuff. Just the two of them interacting after all those things they went through together.

You really nailed the awkwardness  in their interactions during this time and also, and this might seem weird, the quiet atmosphere, that feeling that there were just the two of them and everybody else was asleep.

And, most importantly, Faith stayed!

I never understood why they were apart in the comics, Faith was the second most important slayer and she's just...stuck somewhere (Cleaveland?) while all the other Soobies-and Andrew!- are doing important stuff in Europe...*grrr*

This is what should've happened, no doubt.

Thanks for this.

P.S- I am waiting patiently for Girl, I love it and I won't kick you!

Author's Response:

Where in heck do you live that you're awake and reading fic right now? I actually posted this then opened up the current chapter of Girl and started working. All the pieces are there but i'm doing this annoying thing where I write random scenes and then I don't know how the eff they're fitting together in this and the next chapter. So I'm working on arranging the puzzle. I tentatively hope to finish the chapter within the next few days.

I'll admit to not reading the comics, so only knowing vague info about them. :p But I have a deep and abiding distaste for Andrew (also Kennedy), so I will concur with your resentment that he's off doing stuff and Faith's kicked to the curb. :p

Thank you!

This is one hell of a first fic. :)

And I mean like absolutely in a good way.

I love Faith POV stories and this is a very good one. With a nice focus on the real trauma of her near death at the hands of Buffy. It's an original take on the events that I can't recall reading before, and its nicely realised.

You nailed the residual tension between Buffy and Faith that's usually always there between them- sparking over each other.

I love the fact that Buffy wasn't clueless, that she remembered that dark time just las Faith did. And that Faith hadn't forgotten but had already forgiven but held no real malice towards Buffy.

Plus I like the resolution, turning the negative memory/association into a positive one was a nice way to wrap things up.

Buffy and Faith and rooftops- always memorable!

Author's Response:

Heyyyo! This was one hell of a piece to get out, short and all, so yay! Glad that you liked it, especially since I'm inhaling one of your fics that is complete and absolutely love it. It's always good to get a review from fellow writers. I really wanted to present something that I haven't seen posted, so I waited a bit as I came up with ideas, just to see if anyone else was going to touch on it for the contest. Worked out pretty welll. There was no way I could have Buffy clueless and it still hold the same impact, and I wasn't sure about the final moment being necessary or possible until I nailed the tension that I hoped to establish (but wasn't sure I could pull off). Thanks again for the great, in depth review!

Well I haven't read much of your stuff up until this, but that sure as hell is gonna change!  :)

This is really, really fun. A little Fuffy wilderness adventure that encapulates why I so love these two post-Chosen.

Love the premise, Faith's almost constant bitching (so funnt btw!) the snowmobiles, the abandoned log cabin, the sniping back and fortyh, the flirting, the near drowning that leads (naturally) to body heat sharing.

And all the snark and defensiveness was there to see, from both of them, and it was a refreshing change to see Faith doing the pushing/friendliness thing, in a completely Faith-like way.

Poor Buffy, I kind of guessed why she was so sad, being that it was a year after Sunnydale went caput, but it was still heartbreaking when she opened up and had a good cry about all those memories of her Mom that she'd lost.

But...that ending, with Faith finding out that being a little light-fingered can be a force for good!

Very sweet, very moving and made me feel warm inside (and bizarrely quite Christmassy- must be the whole snow/ice theme. :P)

Very good and thanks for writing!

So apparently I'm the first to review this...I have no idea why because it's brilliant! It deserves to be showered with praise, and tickertape and possibly foam of some sort. (I'm a bit vague on why but bear with me.)

So, really original idea. I loved the Slayer Summer Camp vibe, how you made the whole thing come alive by mentioning the classes and a few of the girls and stuff. Very cool.

And also the 'demon hunt' and the feast after, felt like fun, tradition-like boarding school things that would actually happen. (If, y'know, this whole vampire/slayer thing were at all real :p)

But most of my praise goes to how you write Buffy and Faith. Before all the character angst they still feel like the characters we love. Buffy is a bright spark but nervous and apprehensive about the whole slayer thing. Faith wholey embrasses it because she doesn't really have anything better in her own life.

I loved their fun little conversations, the verbal sparring, the actual sparring, the flirting, the romance. That 'first crush' feeling you summed up so perfectly.

Oh, and the ending (which I wasn't expecting) where you jumped forward three years to the actual show...pure genius.

Buffy and Faith meeting up again after that lost summer, shaped by the bad things that they've been through but still basically the same person in each others eyes, I went all mushy, I'm not afraid to say. :)

Perfect one-shot story. Enjoyed it so much.

Author's Response:

Thank you! :) I am happy you were the first to review because you were so enthusiastic! :p *shakes foam off the fic* I do hope that won't stain.

Slayer summer camp is pretty much what I was imagining, although I left out capture the flag etc. :p I have never been to summer camp or boarding school, so I'm glad TV did not lead me astray when I had to draw on ideas of what they'd be like, haha.

I am so glad you liked baby Buffy and Faith. It felt really weird writing them. Faith was easier because I think she had all that bravado from day 1 (although less to back it up). Buffy was more difficult because we know she was a shallow brat before the series, but I gave her a year's worth of Giles pre-story to straighten her up, and then just tried to make her work. Good to know it got where I was trying to go. :D

I wasn't sure what to do with the ending for a while. I was thinking of having Buffy return the following year as the slayer, with Faith still a potential, but ultimately I liked the image of Faith showing up the same way but Buffy being delighted to see her, so I went with it. It was actually supposed to end there, but the rest of it just sort of demanded to be written. :p You know how stories are, always kicking you around when you have to finish by a deadline. :) Thank you, thank you!! :D

So I read through all 5 chapters in one go when I realised that I'd read, and very much liked, your Faith one-shot.

I always enjoy Faith POV stories, and yours is a very original take on her, her road to redemption, and the Bffuy-verse as a whole. That's pretty had to do in a field as crowded as Fuffy tends to be! :)

You write really well, the story flows naturally from chapter to chapter, and all the characters have a real, distinct voice to them.

Faith starting over in Cleaveland was a real fresh view of her character, reading about her striving on her own before going back to Sunnydale was good, and also important.

I also like that your not rushing her relationship with Buffy, just keeping it ticking along in the background. Another good move.

I don't often say this but I enjoy all your original characters- Mark and Sara and Vi, I didn't think I would butI guess thet snuck into my affections just like they did Faith's.:)

Their pretty regular folks caught up in occult craziness- in this chapter especially I really enjoyed Sara and Vi's reactions to things.

And Willow! Honestly being a Faith fan and a Willow fan is hard sometimes, 'cause they really don't get on much. But I was glad to see them bond (and Willow lust a little bit...) when Faith asked her for help.

The Willow POV's were very true to her character- and it was nice to see her see Faith in a positive light with mentoring Vi and caring for her friends.

Overall I'm enjoying Faith being a badass Slayer and taking on W&H- interested to see where this goes. :)

Author's Response:

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it!

Faith is the most interesting character to write from, not only for her problems but also because she's such a blank slate - but doesn't *feel* like a blank slate. It's great! And I disgree - Fuffy fanfiction tends to revolve around serveral very tired scenarios. There's room for so much more!

I picked Cleveland for its importance but overall lack of detail in the Buffyverse. I think I glossed over too much in the first chapter, but I also wanted a lot of that out of the way. Maybe sometime in the future I'll post an updated (and necessarily longer) chapter 1.

I want to see Buffy and Faith gravitate together in a healthy fashion. I hate angst with a passion, even though some authors (looking at you, too) write it well enough that I read the story anyways.

I'm glad you like my characters. I've tried to make them as genuine as possible. Faith's going to be jumping locations a fair bit, so I want Cleveland to be memorable as a home base.

Willow was fun to write, and the fits together with Faith almost better than Buffy does. I have a Fillow fic in mind; one day, I'll get around to writing and posting it!

Wolfram & Hart are nasty enemies. I figured that I'd introduce them to a better opponent than Angel could ever be.

I did sneak in an update, so I hope you like the new chapter just as much!

Loved what Faith did to Parker- a repeat of the treatment she gave Scott- simple, yet I found it more effective than the various things that happened to him on the actual show (Willow calling him on his bs, Cave Bufffy and Riley hitting him)

Faith knows where to hurt a slease like him. :)

Pleased that we got more Buffy/Faith interacting, Faith coming over just like, without even thinking about it, that was sweet and heartwarming.

Faith talking with Joyce was great to read. Plus the Buffy/Faith mating dance...hot! not to mention Faith gently teasing Willow- it was all great.

And then as a bonus we get Faith guest-starring on Angel instead of Oz- and getting to beat on Spike again. :)

I have to say I thought that maybe at this point you were gonna pull the trigger and dust his ass (he is a REALLY devisive character) but I had to settle for Faith shooting him in the face a whole bunch. *sigh* I'll take what I can get. ;)

But that ending, with Faith at the airport and then the lady's POV to the Joyce/Faith meeting...man, I damn near choked up. 'Cause that's how Faith is, deep down- this really raw, sweet, genuine, damaged woman that you know how to write.

Kudos.

Whenever you decide to write more I will eagerly read. :)

Author's Response:

I'm so, so glad you enjoyed my chapter ending. Here's hoping that the newest addition will also be to your liking.

I think Spike is a horrible character, but only because he was overused. As a recurring villain, he was perfect. Don't worry, though, he's got more abuse heading his way.

Parker was fun to write - and I agree, revenge is always best served with a side of embarassment.

Mating dance, huh? Well yes, I suppose it is...

Joyce is fun to write - and I've just finished writing a whole lot of her for the next chapter!

And Willow? Keep your eye on Willow...

Whew- another great chapter! :)

More Joyce than I was expecting and I loved it- you write her very well; sympathetic, warm and loving but also recognisably Joyce. Human-with her own worries to deal with.

Faith's childhood in Boston rang utterly true (Mangled 'Go Ask Malice' notwithstanding) even though it was really dark and horrifying to here. This whole scene with Joyce and Faith was a highlight.

Plus 'testicular shock'...ouch. :(

Like the little nods to the 'official' timeline- Cordy referencing 'Room W/a Vu'.

Skipping over 'Beer Bad' was definitly wise, although its a shame that Faith missed Halloween again.

Looking forward to Thanksgiving. 'Pangs' holds all sorts of possibilities...

And...Willow. Wow, Season 4 is where we see the first signs of Willow's darker side and it certainly made itself known here.

Going all-badass on Veruca made sense in this context (a more confident Willow) and Wolf-girls ultimate fate was...troubling.

I'm not sure it was 'right' exactly (even though Veruca is horrible/scummy) but having thought about it it was probably better than having her savaged to death by wolf-Oz.

Does that mean Oz won't be leaving this time? Interesting either way.

*sigh* And The Initiative, well I guess it makes sense that they would be stationed at both Hellmouths.

Intrigued by future plotting- overall looking good!

Love the banner- this story is 'banner-worthy.' :)

Author's Response:

Thanks! I put a lot of effort into getting Joyce right, and I'm glad it was received well.

Faith's background was something that took me a while to decide on. Too heavy and it's overkill; but too light and Faith's character loses something important. And yes, testicular shock. lol

Beer Bad and Cordy's blurb was exactly that: A time stamp. As for Halloween, I really couldn't make it work.

Heh. Thanksgiving... Keep that in mind. In all honesty, the 'romance' part of this story really can't take off until 'Pangs' and 'I Will Remember You.'

I firmly believe that all Willow ever needed to be a badass was an encouraging shove, which Faith provided. As for right, I acutally analyze that a bit in the new update.

And the Initiative... can't leave out our favorite redshirts!

Glad you like the banner!

I usually steer well clear of pure angst fics, but for some reason I'm really intrigued by Post-apocalyptic scenario's and their aftermaths.

S5 and Glory is the prime one I feel, because technically, although Glory lost, so did Buffy, and she was never truly the same after.

This was good, depressing but good.

You sum up the grim hopelessness of the 'brave new world' quite eloquently, but also don't leave out the closeness that can come from clinging onto those few relationships left.

Ever cloud, as they say, no matter how dark...

And Buffy is Faith's silver lining. Aw.

There's always room for snuggles, no matter how grim. :)

Thanks for sharing.

Author's Response:

I don't know that Faith is really Buffy's silver lining, to add to the grimness haha. But you're certainly right about her being Faith's. Originally the plan for this fic was to follow them for a while, so it wouldn't have been pure angst. There was an uplifting moment or two. The writing goddesses didn't cooperate with me though. :p

Apocalypse fics are so my jam (obviously heh) so I was really disappointed this one didn't work out for me. I like angst that makes sense as opposed to angst for the sake of angst. Fluff is one of my least favorites because I feel like the angst makes the fluff more satisfying. :p

Thanks for reading!! :)

I really enjoyed this.

You have a way of writing this pairing like its the most natural thing in the world for both the characters, but still include all the snark and wit and humour that makes this such a great couple.

Also you write them having sex a lot! Which I also enjoy and I think, post-S7, is entirely understandable. Two hormonally charged super-women who enjoy sex are gonna indulge themselves. :)

Like one of the above reviewers I detest Spuffy on many levels (and I think it damaged the characters of Buffy and Spike more than a little)...but I do understand that the relationship mattered to Buffy and that she would take some time to mourn/contemplate Spike's sacrifice.

I think her 'time off' made sense from that perspective as well as just 'taking a break' from her own life.

I don't think Buffy ever really loved him, but she did care for him at the end, and even if their relationships was one of the most unhealthy ones I've even seen on television, in the end it had become something...genuine I think is the word I would use.

Not as important as Bangel, or Briley (or even Buffy's own complicated relationship with Faith) but it happened, it was there, and deserved to be acknowledged- kudos for doing so.

A lot of your dialogue was beautifully written, the Buffy/Faith interplay was natural (I've probably already said that, but it deserves repeating) and all the other characters felt true to themselves, which I like in a Fuffy story.

Loved the ending.

Yay Giles for being so cunning in working his wiles!

Gotta love him for it. :)

I will now go and hunt out more of your stories.:P

(I've only ever read your Fuffy fic 'Barriers', which was one of the best pieces of fiction I've ever read- EVER!)

Author's Response:

Declan,

First things first: this is one of the nicest, most thoughtful reviews ever. I am so happy you enjoyed the story and so very appreciative that you let me know :)

Saying I wrote the pairing: "like it's the most natural thing in the world for both the characters", well how does anything get any better than that? Uh...maybe with: "...but still include all the snark and wit and humor that makes this such a great couple."

Yeah, they do seem to have sex a lot and I don't think I could sum up why nearly as well as you did.

I completely get what you're saying about Spuffy and I understand why some people didn't care for their relationship. For me personally, I really liked his struggle to overcome his demon, how he swung back and forth between evil and not so evil. I liked that his love for Buffy eventually won out, that he got his soul to be a better man for her, and while I don't necessarily think Buffy was in love with him, I do think she loved him. Maybe it could have turned into something else somewhere down the line, maybe not, but it's right there on the screen that she cared for him and that he saved the day.

You calling it "genuine"...I don't think I would have ever thought to use that word, but it sums up their relationship just right for me. I will be stealing that from here on out.

I'm Snoopy dancing that you liked the dialogue and that "all the other characters felt true to themselves". And please, do repeat that "the Buffy/Faith interplay was natural" as many times as you feel you need to. I know I'll never get tired of hearing it ;)

Damn, where were you when I was trying to come up with a title? "Giles' Wiles" would have been perfect!

Wow..."Barriers" praise too? And such wondefully flattering praise that I can't figure out what to say other than a very giddy: "Thank you, Declan."

I guess that sort of sums up my response to this entire feedback: "Thank you, Declan." I really appreciate you reading the story and leaving the kind of feedback that has me grinning like a fool. I don't think I'll be snapping out of it any time soon : ) : ) : )

Very well written. :)

This was an interesting take on Faith's character, and I can certainly see the sense in not spending your best slaying years in jail when you can be out hurting people...but honestly I felt not enough time had gone by for Faith to gain that sort of perspective from her actions.

In 'Sanctuary' she was so broken, so guilt-ridden when it came for Buffy that she went to jail for her. (You're right that Angel never wanted it.)

However, I guess you could see the Rocky speech as an 'Epiphany moment' which turns her life around when Faith is at her low point, just like Angel had one.

I very much liked the ending though, the angry confrontation, the brutal fight, and the tearful reconciliation.

Buffy getting past her anger (and her hurt pride- she's very prideful) to start to try and forgive Faith, to let that anger go, was untimately pretty healthy. :)

I always thought that Buffy was so angry at Faith not just because of what she did, but because of who she was, that deep down she meant something to Buffy, and that's where a lot of the pain came from. So it was good to see that acknowledged.

Again, truly original stuff. :)

Author's Response:

Thanks! Hearing 'very well written' from you is high praise, indeed!

I guess my take on Faith was that she was completely broken in Sanctuary. She would have followed Angel slavishly, having no will of her own. Since Buffy interfered, she submitted to her instead. Now, a few months of solid meals and routine left her slightly better off. Then comes this guy on the TV with an accent just as east coast as hers, and the words she hears calls her out on her BS. Because past the guilt and shame, Faith has always had pride (and ego). The way she deals with her guilt should be her decisions, not the decisions of others.

In the end, Faith walked away with two points from Rocky: That she had to create her own happiness rather than wait for it to be awarded her; and that being in jail was a dumb idea.

At least, that was what went through my head while I was writing it. ;)

I went over the confrontation with Buffy something like fifty times, trying to make it sound organic and the emotions real. I must have watched Sanctuary and Graduation Day 1 a half-dozen times each. It pleases me immensely that you enjoyed it.

And finally, yes: Buffy and Faith had a chemistry that was palpable. They were Achilles and Hector from the Illiad. Wear down their masks enough, and it shines through.
